Awesome sunglasses for the price. These are very dark, with full mirrored lenses and a sturdy metal frame. For those familiar with the 'shade' system used to standardize lens tinting, these are a 4. Most sunglasses, even good brands are a 3 at most. Glasses used for oxyacetylene torch welding are usually a 5-7. More powerful forms of welding (ARC/MIG/TIG) require a 9-12 shade or higher depending on the amperage used. Julbo states in the manual that these sunglasses are not recommended for driving, but I find that they work fine, especially in ultra-high glare situations like wet/snow covered roads. They turn an extremely sunny day into the filtered, yellow/orange light you usually see through summer storm clouds. If you're like me, and kept wishing that your standard sunglasses were just a little darker, these are what you're looking for. The side shields aren't distracting, and make it unnecessary to play with the visor in your vehicle when the sun is coming through the side windows. They're made or leather and are fully removable if the look or feel bothers you. The lenses are not polarized, as is common with most glasses designed for mountaineering. This allows the user to see the reflections from dangerous patches of ice before they're too close. Heavily chromed bumpers will definitely get you attention on a sunny day, but they're not unbearable. Another neat feature not described in the add, the ear pieces are flexible on the ends. This allows you to curl them back over your ears for maximum retention during vigorous activity. I've owned some very expensive sunglasses in the past. For the price, you can't beat these. I look forward to trying other Julbo models in the future.
