I had the impression, maybe not well supported, that this would be a smaller helmet and not so space-ballish. While it is a bit smaller than my other helmet, it is still bigger than I was hoping.

You have to protect your skull while you progress, but no one wants to wear some goofy-ass helmet that makes you look like an extra from some B-movie about alien invaders. It has a convenient venting system that helps you keep cool after hours of snowboarding. Looks snazzy on the slopes. Love this helmet.

(More customer reviews)I just finished five days of skiing with the Smith Variant helmet. I found it to be excellent. First, it is very comfortable, with a thick mesh lining inside that gives all good around support. There is an additional adjusting strap in the back of the helmet that keeps it from wobbling around on your head. The padded ear pieces fit snugly. After a full day's skiing, I hardly realized I had it on. The second great thing about this helmet is the adjustable ventilation system. Sliders, one on each side of the helmet, adjust the air holes between completely open to completely closed. I seem to get warmer faster than most people when skiing and the Variant ventilation system kept me comfortable. On the warmest day, very high 30's, with the air holes open all the way, I was cool and comfortable and conversely on the coldest day, very low 20's, with the openings open just a little, I was warm and comfortable. It obviously can handle a wide range of temperatures with no problem. I wore Smith Shred goggles with this helmet and the contours of the helmet and goggles match perfectly, but I think most helmet compatible goggles would fit without problems. Like most helmets, there is a strap on the back that secures the goggle strap to the back of the helmet. This helmet can accommodate earphones, but I can't comment on this feature since I don't use them. In comparison to other helmets I have worn, this is the best.
