(More customer reviews)Everything I've ever wanted in a pair of sunglasses with just a bit of extra weight thrown in! I've owned 3 different models of Maui Jim sunglasses now, and have worn a fourth (My wifes) a few times. Of the 4 models, the Shoreline glasses are the closest to perfection for me.
Why 3 of my own models?
My wife first purchased Maui Jims about 10 years ago. The lenses were glass, the frames were stylish, they were heavy. The quality of the lens was evident, but at the time I wasn't interested in an expensive pair of sunglasses. On a boat one afternoon, my wife's heavy pair of Maui's decided to take a swim, and they never came back! Fast forward a few years.....
Being that she loved her glasses, she decided another pair of Maui Jims was in order, so we both purchased sport models. She purchased the Titanium Sports (503-02) and I purchased the Lahaina Stainless Sport model (450-02). About 4 years later both pairs of 'sport' sunglasses were sent in for lens replacement. Hers cracked due to an accident, and mine cracked from normal, everyday use. In fact, we got the glasses back in March of this year. She hasn't worn hers much since the repair, and I've worn mine infrequently being extra careful to prevent another cracked poly lens. Well, the 450-02's are already starting to show hairline cracking where the bridge piece attaches to the lens, and I've been EXTRA careful with them, always storing them in their case when not in use. They are currently on their way to Maui for another, free repair.
In the meantime I decided to purchase the Shorelines, and I'm loving them. They are heavier than the sports, but I'm not afraid to wear them for fear of cracking a lens simply by putting them on and taking them off. The quality of the lens is excellent, and the style fits me perfectly.
There's a good chance that when I get my 450-02's back from repair that I'll be selling them on ebay. Oh, the third pair was a pair of Ho'okipa's. The left lens cracked when I attempted to tighten the screw holding the lens to the plaastic frame as they were loose. Yeah, that one was my fault. I should have sent them in to be tightened!
So there you have it. My history of Maui Jim ownership in far too many words. If these shorelines prove to somehow be fragile I will be moving on to another brand, but in the meantime I'll be looking forward to a lot of sunny days......
